Get To Know Jashita Hotel Tulum

We are thrilled to welcome the stunning Jashita Tulum to the Sharp Hotels family. Situated in Tulum, Mexico, Jashita is our first partner in the Americas, and is perfectly suited to guests looking for a luxurious and relaxing paradise getaway, with a large side of culture on the side. Set on the Yucatán Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea, Tulum is notable for its beautiful nature and its ruined Mayan walled city.

We caught up with Marta De Zambiasi at Jashita Tulum to get the scoop on what makes this place so special.

Getting to know Jashita Tulum, is there a back story to the property and how it came to fruition?

“Jashita’s story goes back to the early 90s and was written by an adventurous and nature-loving Italian family. The owners discovered Soliman Bay when there was nothing but untouched tropical nature and a small tacos place at the opposite end. They were travelling with family around the beautiful Riviera Maya and immediately fell in love with this little secluded bay. So much so that they decided to make this special place their home. After a few years, their house became two and the two houses became bigger and bigger until, in 2010, they were big enough to welcome their first guests. Jashita was a home to its owners then, and it is still a home to its guests now.”

Tulum owes its popularity to its very unique vibe and style: it’s rustic but glamorous at the same time, It’s bohemian, hippie-chic or, how many like to describe it, jungle-chic.

What can guests expect when visiting Tulum?

“Tulum owes its popularity to its very unique vibe and style: it’s rustic but glamorous at the same time, It’s bohemian, hippie-chic or, how many like to describe it, jungle-chic. People visiting Tulum for the first time can expect a place of deep connection to nature, of spirituality, music, art, architecture, international gastronomy and fine hospitality. All of this, in the middle of the jungle and facing the ocean.”

How would you describe the vibe of Jashita Tulum?

“Jashita’s personality hasn’t followed the most recent trends in Tulum. If you think of the popular “Tulum vibes”, the first things that come to your mind are bohemian outfits, tribal music and rustic-chic hotels. The “Jashita vibes”, on the other hand, remained the same since day one. Soliman Bay is a separate reality from Tulum, despite being right around the corner, and what predominates is the love for nature and the European elegance and comfort.”

In general, what kind of guest does Jashita Hotel attract?

“Our guests are elegant travellers looking for a quiet, exclusive and off-the-beaten-tracks place. They’re nature lovers and foodies who want to be away from the crowds but still be close to everything. The majority of them are mature couples, some honeymooners and a few families. They want barefoot-luxury and comfort at the same time.”

What makes Jashita Tulum a destination in itself?

“Jashita is located in the breathtaking Punta Soliman, a secluded bay only 12 minutes driving north of Tulum. This makes Jashita a completely different reality from the rest of hotels in Tulum. It’s a place to disconnect and relax completely, away from the crowds and night life of Tulum. The bay is also home to a beautiful coral reef, part of the World’s second Largest Reef Barrier. This makes Jashita the perfect destination for water sports lovers: snorkelling , kayaking and paddle boarding in the bay are experiences you can’t miss. Most of our guests, especially the repeating ones, never leave the bay at all, as they have everything they were looking for right there.”

What can guests expect during one of the Mayan ceremonies at Jashita Hotel?

“All Mayan ceremonies bring ancient traditions back to life and celebrate the rich heritage of the Mayan culture. Guests can expect moments of complete relaxation and thoughtfulness. Like during the Cacao Ceremony: a journey of meditation and introspection in which, accompanied by ancient songs and symbolic gestures, we learn to appreciate the richness of our present.”

Where can guests experience the best Mayan culture?

“Apart from the traditional rituals and ceremonies, Guests can relive the Mayan culture by visiting the numerous archeological sites and mayan ruins, where time seems to have stopped. The Cenotes are another place where ancient beliefs intersect with the present. These sinkholes that are now the favourite location of divers and adventure seekers, were once considered the most sacred place by the Ancient Mayans: the entrance to the “Xibalba”, the underworld.”

If guests want to have some fun, where would you recommend for an unforgettable night?

“For a fun night out, Guests can go to the heart of Tulum Beach, where most restaurants, beach clubs and hotels are. Starting with dinner at a fancy jungle-side restaurant and finishing with a full moon party on the beach, the possibilities are countless.”

And finally, for some local cuisine, which Yucatecan dish can’t be missed?

“The Yucatecan culture is best discovered through food and its culinary traditions. A must try is “Cochinita Pibil”, a traditional slow-roasted pork dish that can be enjoyed in tacos or sandwiches.”
