Meet Tommaso Marchiorello of Jashita Tulum
Jashita Hotel is a place to disconnect and find the ultimate in relaxation, conveniently tucked away from the crowds and night life of Tulum, Mexico, yet still easily accessible. Soliman Bay is also home to a beautiful coral reef, which makes up part of the world’s second largest reef barrier. Whether relaxing or exploring, Jashita Hotel has you covered. We sought out Jashita’s manager, Tommaso Marchiorello, for the low down on what makes Tulum so special for him, and what drives his passion for hospitality.
“I’m driven by my love for this unique and special place, and the desire to share it with more and more people”.
Indeed, the whole region in which the Jashita Hotel is situated is full of natural wonders. Many people come to the Mayan Riviera to explore the amazing landscape, the rich coastal environment, and historical ruins, not to mention the incredible array of wildlife. “Swimming with the whale sharks in Cancun will always be one of my most special and unforgettable experiences.”

“Smaller hotels are more characteristic; they transmit and reflect the personality of the destination”
The region holds many natural wonders ready for exploration. Some of the world’s most beautiful cave systems and cenotes can be found around the Tulum area. A cenote is a natural sinkhole, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater. This regional term is used for water supplies by the ancient Maya, and even occasionally for sacrificial offerings. “This is one of the very few places in the world where you can find these incredible geological formations: you can’t leave Riviera Maya without having visited one,” says Tommaso.
The Jashita Hotel itself offers a very different guest experience to the large resorts dotted along the coast. “By choosing to stay in a smaller boutique hotel, rather than a big all-inclusive resort, guests will enjoy a real taste of the local area. Smaller hotels have more character – they really transmit and reflect the personality of the destination”. Tommaso believes that many guests describe the Jashita Hotel as a special place because of its history and unique personality. “Before it was a hotel, Jashita used to be a home and each guest feels like they can become part of this special family. Jashita’s soul is the result of the personalities and visions of each of its owner family members”.

Further enhancing your appreciation of the area, the Jashita has a very local feel. It’s part of the scenery, both culturally and physically. Tommaso is passionate about guests immersing themselves in the local area, believing that a stay will have many additional benefits. “The fact that Jashita is not all-inclusive will also probably push you to go visit more of the area and to try different restaurants as well.” Furthermore, he advocates for diving deeper: “By pushing yourself to speak the language, and engaging with the locals, you’ll enjoy a much richer visit.” says Tommaso.
“Ask locals for advice on restaurants to try and places to see… If you know even a little bit of Spanish, it will make your whole experience much more authentic”.
